Zonelle Gregory, age 99, of Colorado City, Texas, (former longtime resident of Sweetwater, Texas), passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Mitchell County Hospital in Colorado City, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Royce Clay officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Zonelle was born on July 9, 1912, in Sweetwater, Texas to Charlie Frank and Osa (Grey) Reid. She graduated from high school and then went to beauty college. She owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years before retiring. During the time when the WASP were at Avenger Field, she had a beauty shop there. She was a longtime member of 4th and Elm Church of Christ and a member of Eastern Star where she earned many honors.
Though she had no children of her own, she helped raise her nieces and nephews. She was a loving daughter, sister and doting aunt. She idolized her mother who was a wonderful role model.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Armstrong of Sweetwater, Texas and Jean Whitworth of Roby, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Frank and Osa Reid; five brothers, Henry Reid, Elbert Reid, Leslie Reid, Rex Reid and Billy Reid; and four sisters, Ethil Pate, Marie Thomas, Bonnie Corbin and Tullie Eddison.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Taylor, Ronnie Joe Hyde, Dakota Bradberry and Randall Thomas.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Armstrong.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 6-8 p.m.
