Wilson named Southeast Teacher of the Year

July 26, 2013

The recipient of the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year award at Southeast Elementary was Patti Wilson.
She is the Special Education teacher to kindergarten and first grade students. Our of her 35 years of teaching, 20 of them have been spent teaching at Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District).
Wilson attended Tarrant County Junior College, Texas Wesleyan College and Texas Women's University, in which she earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master's Degree of Education.
She is a member of the TCTA (Texas Classroom Teachers Association), and is involved with activities through First United Methodist Church, Sweetwater Emmaus and Relay for Life.
Wilson loves working with students, which is why she says she loves teaching them skills, methods and useful strategies to help them learn.
"I love the smile and excitement on their faces as they begin walking with heads held high when they realize they can learn and are able to apply the skills they've learned," Wilson explained.
But while she wants her students to have good and improving grades, Wilson believes that teaching goes beyond academics. She wants her students to develop skills that will help them be a friend to others and make friends, to learn how to control their anger and frustration, and to deal with situations in an appropriate manner.
"To be successful," Wilson said, "I believe all this must be done with love, tenderness, patience, joy and laughter."
