Women are known for loving a great many thingsâfamily, friends, diamonds, chocolate, roses â the list could go on and on. But, this weekend, a number of Sweetwater women are joining together to say that women also love helping other women. Specifically, ladies from our community will be gathering to help the 27 million women and children worldwide who are caught in the human trafficking industry.
This Sunday, April 28, at 6 p.m. womenâs groups from all over Sweetwater will meet at Emmanuel Fellowship Church at 1418 Hailey Street to learn how they can change the world right here from West Texas. The evening will include dessert, music and a special message from guest speaker Paige Allen. Paige is the missions pastor of Church on the Rock in Lubbock. She has also served with Sower of Seeds, an organization that rescues and ministers to women who are imprisoned in sex trafficking in India.
The evening will close with a chance to practically serve those same women. Eternal threads, a ministry based in Abilene, will provide merchandise hand-crafted by women who have courageously fled the sex trafficking industry and are trying to support themselves through their own artisan businesses. All women attending the âWhat Women Loveâ event will have an opportunity to purchase these goods, with all proceeds going directly to the rescue and support of these women across the globe.
Event coordinator, Mindy von Atzigen, says, âI believe women are a major force for social justice. We have hearts that are drawn to family and the nurturing of children. Itâs in us to want to join together to make a difference in the lives of those who have no one to speak for them. This event is going to give us a chance to do that as the women of Sweetwater.â
The evening is sponsored by the women of Cornerstone Church of Sweetwater, First Christian Church of Sweetwater, First Methodist Church of Sweetwater, First Baptist Church/Backyard Bible Club of Roby, Trinity Baptist Church of Sweetwater and Emmanuel Fellowship Church of Sweetwater. It is also being sponsored by the women of Celebrate Recovery of Sweetwater, Sweetwater Aglow, Gateway Family Services, the West Texas Childrenâs Advocacy Center, Rodan and Fields of Sweetwater and Paradise Boutique.
All women of the community are invited to attend. Tickets for the event are $5 each, with each ticket being redeemable for merchandise at the end of the evening. Childcare for the event is available for $3 per child by pre-registration only. To purchase tickets or register for childcare, call the Emmanuel Fellowship Church at 236-9200, or drop by the church offices at 1418 Hailey Street.
