UPDATE: WASP Homecoming parade to begin at Nolan County Plaza

This Saturday, May 26, 2012, 21 WASP from all over the United States will be returning to Avenger Field in Sweetwater for Homecoming 2012.

This Saturday, May 26, 2012, 21 WASP from all over the United States will be returning to Avenger Field in Sweetwater for Homecoming 2012. Some will arrive by private planes between 9-10 a.m., some will arrive by car and nine will have spent Friday night in Sweetwater. The WASP will be accompanied by 21 U.S.Air Force women pilots all weekend.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Young Eagles Program will offer free flights to children ages 8-17 years old.
The annual WASP Homecoming 2012 will begin with an honor parade from Nolan County Plaza at 9 a.m. to the museum.
At 10:30 a.m. the WASP will participate in the official ground breaking ceremony for the museum's three million dollar expansion. The 21 Woman Air-force Service Pilots (WASP) between the ages of 85 and 98, gold shovels in hand, will be breaking ground for the national museum that will house their memorabilia and perpetuate their stories.
At 11:30 a.m. they will attend a luncheon at Texas State Technical College where WASP Nell Bright will be the featured speaker.
From 2:15-4 p.m. there will be a chance to have photos/autographs with WASP in Hangar I.
At 7 p.m. there will be a dinner/dance with 1940s music by Billy Weems and the Sweetwater Municipal Band. 
At 8:35 p.m. there will be a Sunset Memorial Ceremony including roll call of the 38 WASP who died in the service of their country by Col. Sandra Opeka. The placing of the wreath will be done by Lt. Marie Barrett from Dyess Air Force Base. The Dyess Honor Guard will retire the flag and Lt. Col Bridget McNamara of the Pentagon will present the flag to the oldest WASP in attendance.
