Two SHS girls lifters will go to state

Thompson, Lara to represent SHS in girls' state powerlifting meet

Alexis Thompson in the 114-pound class and Ashley Lara in the 198-pound class will be representing Sweetwater High School at the state girls powerlifting meet after recording top-two finishes this past week-end at the regional meet in Fort Stockton.
Thompson was second Alyssa Flores of Snyder in her weight class with a total lift of 515 pounds while Lara was second in her weight class to Kathryn Garza of Fort Stockton after lifting a total of 630 pounds.
This year’s state meet will be held March 16 in Corpus Christi. Thomp-son was a state alternate in 2012 after she placed third at regionals.
Sweetwater also got fourth-place finishes at this year’s regional meet from Nay Gonzales (640) in the 220-pound weight class; Ziggy Collins (540) in the 198-pound weight class; Ezzy Mermella (595) in the 181-pound weight class; Kristi Ward (615) in the 165-pound weight class; Mikki Reschman (655) in the 148-pound weight class; and Val-eria Zavaleta (550) in the 123-pound weight class. In addition, Dana Hohn competed in the 165-pound class.
Austin Marlett, Trey Harvey, Jay Lomas, Kendall Rea, Steven Le and Donald Baker will compete in the Region I boys regional tournament for Sweetwater on Saturday at Sundown.
