Both westbound lanes of Interstate 20 at the US 84 overpass under construction in Nolan County are currently closed due to an overnight wreck. The westbound main lanes of I-20 remain closed for law enforcement to continue their investigation of the crash.
The driver of an 18-wheeler wrecked into the side of the overpass on Monday night and died at the scene. According to emergency authorities, it took about an hour to get the driver out of the truck and many rescue tools were used in the process. Members of the Sweetwater Fire Department and Roscoe Fire Department assisted in the recovery.
Traffic should exit at US 84 Business to go around the closure and then re-enter westbound I-20. The closure is expected to last for several hours.
Crews will inspect the bridge construction thoroughly, but it appears that if any damage to the structure resulted from the crash, it is minor.
