Texas Rangers assist in Shackelford County death investigation

Texas Rangers, a part of the Texas Department of Public Safety, assisting in area investigation

On Sunday, June 17, at about 6 a.m., law enforcement officials were called to the scene of a physical altercation between two men in Albany, Texas.
Anthony Gargus, 36 years of age, and Michael Derrid Green, 24 years of age, had been involved in an argument on property owned by Green's family. As the altercation became physical, it was observed that Anthony Gargus had become unresponsive. First aid was attempted and an ambulance was summoned. Judge James Breeden pronounced Anthony Gargus dead at the scene. Gargus' body was taken to Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office in Fort Worth, Texas for an autopsy. Next of kin have been notified.
The Texas Rangers have been requested and are assisting officials in Shackelford County with this investigation. Texas Ranger Shane Morrow has been assigned to this case. Michael Derrid Green has been cooperating with law enforcement officials.
The result of the autopsy is pending. This is an ongoing investigation. No other information about this case will be released at this time.
