Sweetwater student wins first place in poetry competition

Staff Writer

Last week, Angelo State University held its 22nd Writers Conference, and Sweetwater’s Trenton Hicks was honored as a Young Writers Contest winner. Hicks submitted a work through his SHS / ASU dual credit British Literature class taught by Amanda Hall. “Where Home Is,” a humorous poem that celebrates West Texas, won 1st place in the poetry competition. Hicks was awarded a certificate and a book by Brian Turner, the conference’s featured writer. SHS is proud of Trenton Hicks and hopes that more dual credit students will participate in this contest in the future.
