The 2017-18 high school basketball season for both the Sweetwater and Roscoe girls begins today on their home courts as the Lady Mustangs host Irion County and the Plowgirls entertain Robert Lee.
Devin Griffin will make her debut today as the new Sweetwater girls basketball coach. This is her first head job after serving as an assistant at Amarillo Tascosa.
At Roscoe, Shella Arnwine begins her second season as head coach.
Basketball begins later in the month for the area boys teams, whose openers may be delayed since all four of the area football teams have qualified for the playoffs that begin next week.
Bryan Loera is the new boys basketball coach at Sweetwater, which is scheduled to begin its season on Nov. 21 by going to Wall — whose football team will also be participating in the football playoffs.
