Roscoe, Highland girls also set to start district hoops today

The start of a new year means the high school bas-ketball season is about to enter the critical stage.
That’s certainly true for Nolan County as girls teams from Sweetwater, Highland and Roscoe all begin district play tonight.
Sweetwater (14-9) plays at Big Spring (11-10) start-ing at 6:15 p.m. It will be the first game of 2013 for the Lady Mustangs, who have been idle since going 2-2 at the Slaton tournament this past weekend.
Sweetwater opened the tournament with victories over Tahoka (52-30) and Petersburg (48-33), but lost to Slaton 49-32 and Whitharral 44-22 in its last two games.
Roscoe and Highland, who are in the same dis-trict for at least the next two years, also hit the road as they will play at Hermleigh and Westbrook, respectively. The boys teams have yet to start district, but High-land will host Paint Creek today. Blackwell’s boys and girls have begun district play and host Robert Lee today. The boys are off to a 1-1 start in district while the girls are 0-4.
The Sweetwater girls play host to Midland Greenwood next Tuesday and entertain Monahans three days later, when the boys will be joining them for a district dou-bleheader at Mustang Gym.
