SW girls 3rd at Classic

The Sweetwater Girls Golf Classic on Tuesday saw a third-place finish in Division I by Sweetwater’s No. 1 team at Sweetwater Country Club.
Sweetwater shot 381, just five strokes behind second-place Snyder’s 376. Wylie won by shooting 342 at the tournament, which was rescheduled from its original Feb. 23-24 dates due to bad weather and shortened to one day.
Journee Pugh shot 85 to lead Sweetwater and tie for third place with two other medalists, but lost a scorecard playoff. Also playing for Sweetwater No. 1 were Katelyn Guzman (96), Miranda Sloan (96), Avery Allen (101) and Jaelynn Page (104).
The low medalist was Maddi Olson of Wylie, who shot 78 for a one-shot edge over Big Spring’s Abbey Bryan.
Sweetwater No. 2 (418) also played on Tuesday. Avery Allen was second in Division II medalist play after shooting a 101. Julia Rees shot 102, Rachael Sparks 107 and Samantha Torres 108. Allen finished one shot behind Cooper’s Amanda Strickland.
