SW gets split at Stanton

Sweetwater varsity basketball teams in action

The Sweetwater boys lost but Sweetwater’s girls won in first-round basketball ac-tion Thursday at Stanton’s Hooptown Tournament.
The girls are in the semi-finals after beating Coaho-ma 42-29, while the boys had an afternoon consola-tion game after losing 50-33 to Sands in their opener.
Kendra Crosson poured in 23 points for Sweetwater’s girls (8-6), who advanced to play Stanton at 6 p.m. today in the semifinals. Sweet-water led 16-9, 25-16 and 32-22 at the breaks.
Shelby Cason scored nine points while Suede Shirley and Janell Walker had three and Elise Lawrence and Taylor McPherson two.
Should Sweetwater win today’s semifinal, it will advance to Saturday’s title game against Midland Clas-sical or Midland Christian. The championship game will begin at 6 p.m., with the third-place game at noon.
Sweetwater was to play either Coahoma or Tahoka today. Cole Maxwell scored eight points, Dylan Ben-nett and Isaiah McGee six, Michael Hunt five and Tre Taylor and Rhett Torres four. Sweetwater (2-5) led 17-10 after one quarter.
