Sweetwater places 2nd at Rattlesnake Relays

Sweetwater athletes made a strong showing Friday at the high school track field when they hosted their Rattlesnake Relays for the first time in several years.
The Sweetwater boys and girls both placed second to San Angelo Central in the team standings, with the boys scoring 131 points and the girls 101. Central’s boys and girls scored 192 and 226 points, respectively.
The Sweetwater boys won a total of seven events, with both Nick Nemir and Kaleb Hoover winning twice.
Nemir swept the hurdles, winning the 110 hurdles in 15.20 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 41.73. He was also the anchor for the 800 relay which had a winning time of 1:33.81.
Hoover, meanwhile, won the 400 dash with a time of 53.68 seconds and also was first in the high jump, where he cleared 6-0.
They were joined in the winners’ circle for Sweet-water by Isaiah McGee, who beat out Nemir in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 1/4 inches — Nemir was second at 19-7 — and Deandre Gatson, who won the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 10 inches.
Jay Lomas and McGee were second and third, re-spectively, in the 200 dash and Lomas, Kris Duran and Gatson had a 3-4-5 finish in the 100 dash. The boys 400 relay placed second with a time of 45.28 seconds.
The Sweetwater girls got their only two wins in relay events, as the 400 relay won with a time of 51.72 seconds and the 800 relay had a winning time of 1:49.55.
Sweetwater came close to a sweep in the relays, as the 1600 relay was second with a time of 4:26. The best in-dividual finish came from Abby Garcia, who was sec-ond in the high jump (4-8). Cierra Knox was third in the discus and shot put, while Kelsi Crosson placed third in the triple jump.
