Sweetwaterâ€™s sub-varsity basketball teams gained a split in their games Friday here against Snyder.
The JV girls were most dominant, beating Snyder 58-27 as they improved to 22-1 overall and 8-1 in district. Coming off its first loss of the season three days earlier at Monahans, Sweet-water roared out to a 24-2 lead after the first quarter and led 37-12 at halftime against Snyder.
Sweetwater, which ends its season tonight by host-ing Wylie, was paced by Cierra Knox with 14 points. Also in double figures was Abby McPherson with 13 points while Morgan Whit-ley had nine, Nisha Wil-liams eight, Maddie Jones six and Jaya Atkins and Bianca Castillo four.
Sweetwaterâ€™s freshman girls (12-8, 5-4) won 22-16 as Alaina Andrews had six points to pace the victory.
Caroline Guelker had five points, Marissa Sanchez and Ashley Parker four, Mickenzie Brownlow two and Abby Garcia one.
The JV boys were hurt by a poor start as they lost, 28-18, dropping them to 1-14 overall and 1-6 in district play. Sweetwater managed just two first-half points against Snyder, which held a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and was ahead 13-2 at halftime.
Marquees Jenkins led Sweetwater by scoring sev-en points while Jonathan Browning and Trey Taylor had four points, Deshaun Williams two and Michael Hazard one.
Despite Hardy Escobarâ€™s team-high 14 points, the freshman boys (6-6, 0-5) lost 39-36. Mark Lawrence scored eight points, Jâ€™Corey Amos seven, Denzell Moore four, Adrian Vizzerra two and Michael Lawrence for Sweetwater. Escobar hit a pair of 3-pointers.
