Without playing a game Friday, the Sweetwater boys basketball team locked up a playoff spot in District 5-4A and got another bit of good news as well.
Snyder’s 51-47 overtime win over Big Spring eliminated the Steers and put the Mustangs and Tigers in the playoffs.
And Sweetwater still has a shot at the No. 2 berth, thanks to a 81-37 Wylie win over Brownwood on Friday. Brownwood (4-3) will play host to Sweetwater Tuesday when both teams wrap up the regular season.
A Mustang win Tuesday would create a second-place tie, but Sweetwater (3-4) would receive the No. 2 berth because it would have two wins over Brownwood.
Wylie (7-0) is the No. 1 seed, If Brownwood beats Sweetwater, the Lions will be the No. 2 seed while Sweetwater and Snyder will be tied for third place and would play a tiebreaker or have a coin flip to decide the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.
The Mustangs will begin the playoffs either Feb. 19 or Feb. 20.
