SHS tennis continues fall play

Sweetwater tennis action continues

Sweetwater High School’s varsity tennis teams begin their final week of action during the fall season at 4 p.m. today when they go to Midland Lee for matches with Monahans. Sweetwater then ends fall play with a match at Big Spring at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Last week, Sweetwater hosted Abilene Cooper on Oct. 23 and also traveled to Brownwood for a match on Oct. 27. Sweetwater lost in both matches, falling to Cooper 14-5 and to Brownwood 12-7.
Sweetwater’s singles and doubles results for both of the matches follow:
ABILENE COOPER 14, SWEETWATER 5
Boys doubles — Bryan Vause and Keygan Valdez lost 3-8; Zac Bax and Billy Reeves lost 2-8; Michael Redondo and Stephen Shipp lost 4-8.
Girls doubles — Jenny Medellen and Kristen Casto won 8-6; Gewel Cherry and Brianna Hicks lost 5-8; Teresa Perez-Poe and Vida Gamez won 8-5.
Mixed doubles — Marc Butler and Ashley Heaton lost 8-9 (5-7).
Boys singles — Stephen Shipp lost 4-6, 4-6; Zac Bax lost 4-8; Bryan Vause lost 2-8; Keygan Valdez lost 2-8; Billy Reeves lost 6-4, 1-6 (4-10); Michael Redondo lost 3-6, 4-6.
Girls singles — Jenny Medellen lost 3-6, 6-2 (4-10); Kristen Casto lost 3-6, 6-4 (6-10); Teresa Perez-Poe won 7-6, 6-0; Gewel Cherry won 8-4; Vida Gamez lost 5-7, 7-6 (8-10); Brianna Hicks won 8-6.
BROWNWOOD 12, SWEETWATER 7
Boys doubles — Bryan Vause and Stephen Shipp lost 0-8; Zac Bax and Billy Reeves lost 2-8; Michael Redondo and Keygan Val-dez lost 0-8.
