SHS teams resume playoff chase at Greenwood
Halfway to the playoffs. If the season ended today, Sweetwater High School’s baseball and softball teams would be in the postseason.But they’re not there yet. However, the SHS base-ball team is tied for first place at the midpoint of dis-trict and can get even closer to a playoff berth today if the Mustangs (4-1 in district) win at Greenwood (1-4) today. The game begins at 7 p.m.The SHS softball team is coming off a 10-0 loss at Snyder that dropped them out of a tie for first at 4-2, a game behind first-place Snyder’s 5-1. The Lady Mus-tangs will try to rebound against a Greenwood team that is 3-3 after starting 3-0. Sweetwater needs a win to keep pace with Snyder and Big Spring (4-2). The game begins at 5 p.m. Big Spring is playing at Snyder, so the possibility of a three-way tie for first place exists with three games left in the season. Sweetwater’s only other district loss was to Greenwood.The baseball team won 3-2 at Snyder to remain tied for first with Wylie, a game ahead of Big Spring and two up on Snyder.If Big Spring loses against Snyder today and Sweetwa-ter wins, it will have a two-game lead over both teams with four to play. Sweetwa-ter’s only district loss was to Wylie, which goes to 1-4 Monahans today.
