SHS powerlifters recognized

Several Sweetwater High School powerlifters who recently competed at state meets were honored Monday at a meeting of the Sweetwater Independent School District. Resolutions which recognized the athletes for their accomplishments were presented at the meeting.

Nemir placed sixth in the 181-pound weight class at the state meet in Abilene, while Gonzales was eighth in the 242-pound weight class and Linebaugh was 11th in the 165-pound weight class. The boys state meet was held March 24 at the Abilene Civic Center.
The girls state qualifiers--Loni Mendez, Cari Aguilar, Joslyn Rosas and Lexie Perez--were also honored.  Mendez placed seventh in the 181-pound weight class, while Rosas was 11th in the 220-pound weight class, Aguilar was 13th in the 132-pound weight class and Perez was 15th in the 181-pound weight class.
Also in attendance but not pictured was SHS girls powerlifting coach Liz Miller. The girls state meet was held March 17 in Corpus Christi.
