Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s basketball teams both lost on Friday. The SHS boys fell at Coleman, 48-44, in their season opener and the girls (3-1) lost to Abilene High, 48-42, at the SHS gym.
The boys were paced by Rhett Torresâ€™ 17 points while Dylan Bennett had 12 and Deandre Gatson and Isaiah McGee six. The girls were paced by Suede Shirleyâ€™s 14 points, including two 3-pointers, while Kendra Crosson had nine and Shelby Cason and Jan-ell Walker six apiece for the Lady Mustangs.
Sweetwaterâ€™s boys led Coleman by four, 32-28, af-ter three quarters and the girls were tied with Abilene 33-33 after three periods.
Both Shirley and Kelsi Crosson fouled out for the girls in the fourth quarter and Abilene pulled away at the line, going 18-of-26 to 11-of-18 for Sweetwater. The girls host Early and the boys host Ballinger in a doubleheader here Monday.
Highlandâ€™s boys lost to Roby, 27-17, in their season opener and the girls (2-2) lost to Roby, 37-35. Laramie Thompson led the boys with seven points while Sierra Allen had 12 and Beth Rich-burg 10 for the girls.
Roscoeâ€™s girls are the areaâ€™s only unbeaten team after beating Winters, 37-27, to go 4-0.
Roscoe led just 8-7 after one quarter, but limited Winters to only two more first-half points for an 18-9 lead. Carolina Perez led Roscoe with 10 points. Faith Boren had eight, Mirian Solis six, Torrey Willman five and Eva Aguayo, Shel-by Brown, Stina Tomlin and Whitney Williams two.
