GREENWOOD — Both of Sweetwater’s varsity basketball teams struggled on the road Friday as the girls fell to Midland Greenwood, 45-27, while the boys lost 75-42 in their contest.
Both teams make their longest road trip in district play on Tuesday for a dou-bleheader at Monahans.
GIRLS: Greenwood 45, Sweetwater 27
Sweetwater (3-4 district) fell three games behind second-place Greenwood (6-1), which has lost only to Wylie (7-0) in district play.
Shelby Cason got Sweet-water within five (25-20) when she scored at the end of the third quarter.
But Greenwood quickly pulled away by starting the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run and led by as much as 20 points en route to the victory. Kelsi Crosson, with 10 points, was Sweetwater’s top scorer as the Lady Mus-tangs suffered their third straight loss in District 4-3A after a 3-1 start. Sweetwater also fell a game behind Big Spring (4-3), which defeated Snyder 57-45 to move into outright third place.
Kendra Crosson, who has been Sweetwater’s leading scorer this season, scored six points for the Lady Mus-tangs while Cason had five, Elise Lawrence three, Tay-lor McPherson two and Suede Shirley one.

BOYS: Greenwood 75, Sweetwater 42
Sweetwater trailed 25-7 after one quarter as Green-wood, led by Grant Frank-lin’s 24 points, dominated from the start against the Mustangs (12-11 overall but 1-4 in district).
Greenwood (4-1 district) trails only first-place Wylie (5-0), which still leads after Friday’s 61-31 rout of third-place Monahans (3-2).
Kaleb Hoover scored 17 points to pace Sweetwater while Rhett Torres tossed in eight points, Isaiah McGee six, Michael Hunt five and J.P. Poe and Dylan Bennett three. Poe and Hunt each made a 3-pointer.
