Hospital employees open canned food drive up for community participation

As Thanksgiving Day nears in just a couple of weeks, employees at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) are thinking about area residents who might not have the opportunity to enjoy a holiday dinner. In an effort to help those less fortunate, employee organizers are inviting the community to participate in their “1,000 Cans of Caring” canned food drive.
“This is just another example of how the caring and compassionate nature of our team is extended beyond the treatment of our patients, said Donna Boatright, administrator at the hospital. “Our team continues to develop new and exciting ways to raise money for important causes, and this year’s canned food drive is one of those.”
It is estimated that one in six Americans never know where their next meal will come from one day to the next. That estimate translates to nearly 49.1 million children and adults.
All donations from the RPMH “1,000 Cans of Caring” campaign will go directly to local food pantries to help provide Thanksgiving dinners for those who would not otherwise have a meal to celebrate the holiday.
“Although this is just one way we can help for a short period of time, we hope it raises awareness of the hunger crisis in our country, and in our community,” Boatright explained.
If you would like to donate canned or non-perishable food, you can drop off your contribution at the RPMH Emergency Department waiting room. For more additional information, call 325-235-1701 ext. 221 or visit www.rpmh.net.
