November is American Diabetes Month, and to acknowledge this Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the health department on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions you may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
Regular hours for immunizations will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The immunization clinic is held every Wednesday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m.Â The health department is administering the flu vaccine during the regular immunization clinic. The cost is $20. Medicare Part B is accepted. The cost is $6 for children (six months to 18 years) who does not have private insurance though the Vaccine for Children Program. Medicaid is accepted.
The week of Dec. 2-8 is National Influenza Vaccination Week. To celebrate, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, the health department will give parents of children receiving vaccines sanitizer and wipes to help prevent the flu.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing and methods of birth control and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
