Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Robert P. "Bobby" Gomez, 61, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited by Lupe Medellin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Gomez died Sunday, Jan. 20, at his home.
Gomez was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Sweetwater. He married Vicki Meneses on March 4, 1972, in Sweetwater. Bobby was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He had lived in Sweetwater all his life and was a graduate of Sweetwater High School in 1969. He worked at Lone Star Cement Plant as a machinist from 1972 until he retired in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Gomez of Sweetwater; sisters-in-law, Hope Reyna and Sammy Reyna, Margaret and Michael Hillis, Laura Flores and Sue and Julian Moncada; brother-in-law, Jerry Meneses; father-in-law, Jesus Meneses; mother, Stella Gomez of Sweetwater; brothers, Ricky Gomez and wife Margaret of Abilene and Sammy Gomez of San Angelo.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Gomez on Jan. 14, 1996; his father, Robert Gomez on Nov. 25, 2002; and his brother, Roger Gomez on Dec. 23, 2001.
Pallbearers will be Adon Reyna, Kevin Rosas, Matthew Figueroa, Chris Gomez, Charlie Rosas, Jr., Sammy Reyna, Jr., Jerry Meneses and David Pickrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Torres, Jr., Ricky Heredia, Charlie Rosas, Sr., Nicholas Figueroa, Christopher Figueroa, Joe Torres and Juan (Rue) Abalos.
