Funeral services for Robert Callan Gabel, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Chris Stephens will officiate and interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Gabel died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in Coleman, Texas.
He was born March 24, 1932, in Fisher County. He married Betty Mae Milliorn on Oct. 24, 1957, in Eula, Texas. Robert was a long time member of the Central Baptist Church in Sweetwater and attended Broadway Baptist Church the last few years before moving to Coleman to be close to his daughter for the last two and a half years. Robert worked for USG as a color matcher for 35 years before retiring in 1994. He had lived in Sweetwater since 1953. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Ann Roberts of Coleman; son, Howard Wayne Gabel and wife Carmen of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Emily Ann Roberts of Coleman and Jerod Tyler Roberts of Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae Gabel on Sept. 5, 1992; his parents, Robert Paul and Odessa Gabel; and a sister, Margaret Fay Gabel.
Pallbearers will be U.S. Burton, Rodney Tankersley, Terry Burton, Mark Nix, B.B. McKinney and Richard Milliorn.
