A large number of Nolan County high school athletes are traveling either west or south where they will com-pete in regional track meets that get started on Friday.
Sweetwaterâ€™s athletes will be at the Region I-3A meet at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, while athletes in Roscoe, Blackwell and Highland will all travel to San Angelo where they will be competing in the Region II-1A, Division II meet at Angelo State University.
Roscoe will be sending the largest contingent among the four county high schools, with 20 athletes â€” 11 boys and nine girls â€” ex-pected to be in San Angelo.
The boys athletes are Rafael Aguayo in the 800-meter relay; Matthew Dav-ila in the 400- and 800-meter relay; Dillon Freeman in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and 1600-meter relay; Eduardo Gallegos in the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter relay; Landon Jones in the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter relay and discus; Kevin Lavalais in the 400-meter relay and 100 and 400 dashes; Javier Leanos in the 3200-meter run; Jesus Leanos in the 1600- and 3200-meter run; Jose Rangel in the 400 relay; Luke Rovig in the 400- and 800-meter relay; and Shelton Toliver in the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter relay.
Roscoeâ€™s girls athletes are Eva Aguayo in the 400-meter relay and pole vault; Carolina Perez in the shot put; Alura Renteria in the 3200-meter run; Olivia Rovig in the 400-meter relay and high jump; Olivia Saddler in the 400-meter relay and 100 hurdles; Alejandra Solis in the 3200 run; Mirian Solis in the 400-meter relay; Whitney Williams in the 400-meter relay; and Torrey Willman in the 100-meter hurdles.
Highland has eight girls and three boys going to San Angelo. The Lady Hornets will send the 800 relay of Sierra Allen, Kelsi Johns, Madison Moseley and Sabrina Romero and 1600 relay of Hannah Allen, Sier-ra Allen, Beth Richburg and Lora Stewart. Kailee Hall is a relay alternate, Richburg is also in the discus as well as the 100- and 300-meter hurdles; Hannah Allen is also in the 300-meter hurdles; Moseley is also com-peting in the 1600-meter run; Stewart will also be in the 400-meter run; and Johns will also compete in the 800 run. For the boys, Sheldon Hall is in the 400 and 800 runs; Jacob Rich-burg is in the high jump; and Michael Hyde will com-pete in the pole vault.
Four athletes will compete for Blackwell: Jayden Jones in the boys 100 and 200 dash and pole vault; Matthew Lowry in the boys 110 hurdles and high jump; Mason Magness in the boys triple jump and pole vault; and Stephanie Metcalf in the girls 100 dash, plus the triple jump and long jump.
Sweetwater will be repre-sented by Nick Nemir in the boys 110- and 300-meter hurdles and long jump at Lubbock, and Suede Shirley will compete on the girls 800-meter relay as well as in the 200-meter dash. Shirley will be joined on the 800 relay by Kelsi Crosson, Kendra Crosson and Abby Garcia, with Marissa San-chez a relay alternate.
Also competing in single events are Kaleb Hoover in the boys 400-meter dash; Deandre Gatson in the boys triple jump; and Kayla Chowning in the girls high jump. Gatson will be the first athlete to compete at 11 a.m. Friday.
