Plowboys face huge road test; Highland is hosting Blackwell

Area football preview

The last two weeks have seen Roscoe’s football team pick up its first victory in nearly two years, followed by a respectable effort in a loss to Cross Plains.
But the Plowboys (1-1 district, 1-4 overall) will be facing their toughest test yet at 7:30 p.m. today at district favorite Albany. The Lions, who along with Hamlin and Cross Plains are 2-0 in district, have outscored their first two District 7-1A, Div. II foes by 105 points.
Roscoe, which has had a few starters return from in-jury in recent weeks, beat Baird 14-0 in its 7-1A opener before losing last week to Cross Plains 27-12.
Meanwhile, Blackwell will travel to Highland in a battle for supremacy between the two Nolan County six-man schools. Blackwell is 3-3 while Highland is 4-2.
Highland defeated Lued-ers-Avoca 62-16 and Black-well clobbered Moran 54-8 last Saturday as both teams enjoyed homecoming. High-land has won four straight and Blackwell ended a two-game slide with its win. It’s the final non-district game for both teams.
Highland and Blackwell will have an open date next week. Highland will travel to Rotan for its district opener and Blackwell heads to Robert Lee.
