Freshman Hoover hurls no-hitter in 7-0 win

Most people who follow baseball would agree that an inside-the-park home run and a no-hitter are two of the most exciting things in the sport.
Sweetwater fans got to see their team pull off both feats against Post in Thursday’s opening day of the Wood Bat Classic.
Cameron Fox’s inside-the-park homer capped a three-run outburst in the first inning off Post’s Chess Postell. And that was more than enough cushion for Sweetwater’s freshman hurler Kaleb Hoover, who pitched a no-hitter in his five-inning stint and struck out six in a 7-0 win.
Those developments were the latest in a very encouraging start for the Mustangs (5-1), who need just three more wins to equal their entire total for the 2010 season. With two more games scheduled today and three on Saturday, it could happen as soon as this weekend.
Fox was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice, as did Connor Stafford and Ryan Linebaugh. All three scored in the first inning, as Stafford reached on an error prior to Fox’s hit and Linebaugh led off by getting to second on an outfield error and eventually coming home when Tanner Crain also reached on an error.
Thanks in part to errors, Post got runners to third base in the second and third innings but Hoover worked out of trouble both times and pitched to just one batter over the limit in the fourth and fifth. Meanwhile, Sweet-water finally added to its lead with a run in fourth, then scored three in the fifth on doubles by Stafford and Fox, an RBI grounder by Sterling Reeves, a sacrifice fly by Sean Morrow and an RBI single by Austin Burt.
