The Sweetwater High School Band recently participated in the Director’s Choice Music Festival in Dallas. They played their three competition pieces from the recent UIL contest in Abilene. The Mustangs earned a superior rating from all three judges, along with a “Best in Class” trophy and a “Best High School Band of the Contest” trophy. Sweetwater outscored a Texas 5A school in order to win their final trophy.
Adjudicator Evilio Villareal, from Plano, commented in his written critique, “Rhythm and pulse are solid. Good tonal quality from all instruments. Great clarinet solo!” Adjudicator Royce Coatney from Arlington, added, “This was a very musical performance. Good attention to details of balance, blend and contrast. Good eye contact with director.”
Brad Kent, from Richardson, concluded, “Good use of airstream and stability of precision. Many great concepts are being taught and performed throughout the band.”
While in DFW, the band visited the Dallas World Aquarium, Cowboy Stadium, The Fort Worth Zoo, Six Flags over Texas and attended a Texas Rangers Game.

This is awesome. I remember when the band was not quite to this standard. My sincere compliments to the students and directors!
