Murl Montgomery, 60, passed away at his home on March 30, 2013, after a long battle with brain cancer.
A family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at First Presbyterian Church in Sweetwater with Reverend Kary Fry officiating. Interment will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Masonic graveside rites will be said by Sweetwater Lodge # 571.
Murl was born in Sweetwater on Jan. 13, 1953 to Clemon and Gusta Goettsche Montgomery. He grew up in Lamesa, Abilene, Big Spring, Austin and finally Houston. He graduated from Cypress High School in Cypress, TX in 1971 and then attended Blynn Junior College in Breham, TX. Murl was a machinist by trade and a good one at that. He moved to Sweetwater in 1981 and has been employed by Ludlum Measurements Inc. ever since for 31 years. First he was shop foreman at the LMI building for many years and then became shop manager at Eljen Technologies. Murl was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past master of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571. He also was a member of Suez Shrine Temple in San Angelo.
Murl is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lavynda. Together they have five children, Guy Toland and fiancée Kristen Mills of Abilene, Amber Montgomery and fiancé Kevin Gore of Lewisville, Kim Toland of Sweetwater, Marti Wade and husband Tommy of Abilene and Grant Montgomery and wife Ashley of Oak Point.
With those children he has been blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren, Gunner, Kalei, Emily, Kyler, Kash, Paisley, Kayla and Brock.
Murl is also survived by his mother, Gusta McGee of Sweetwater and step mother, Carolyn Montgomery of Fredericksburg; and four brothers, Lee and wife Susan of Muldrow, Okla., Larry Morgan and wife Mary of Georgetown, Rod Morgan and wife Vicky of Roundrock and Lance Morgan of Austin.
He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Montgomery; his father, Clemon Montgomery and his step father, James McGee.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Graff, Larry Ludlum, Dru Carson, Richard Smola, Jamie Witt and Chris Maxwell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Medlicott, Keith Brock, Randall Stevens and Kent Boatright.
