Funeral services for Morris M. Guelker, 87, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at McCoy Funeral Home with Rev. James Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Guelker died Saturday, Jan. 26, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 10, 1925 in Roby, Texas. He married his first wife, Mitzi Pickett, on April 28, 1948 in Sweetwater. He married his second wife, Lucille Lambert, on Feb. 11, 1993. Morris was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church, a member of the Nolan County Livestock Association and a member of the Elks Lodge. He was an Adult 4-H leader in Fisher County and received the Outstanding Adult Leader award in Fisher County 4-H (also for district). He also worked all of the AJRA rodeos and All Girl rodeos and was a World Appaloosa Show Staff member. He enjoyed working at Wal-Mart and was director of cotton compress, steer superintendent and director of the Nolan County Livestock Show.
Survivors include his son, Mark Guelker of Seguin; daughter, Janet Musgrove and husband Robert of Pine City, MN; grandchildren, Rachel Musgrove of Kingsville, Alex Musgrove and wife Julie of Austin, Megan Guelker of LaJolla, CA, Melany Kurjee and husband Wagas of Houston and Miles Guelker and wife Kayla of College Station; brother, Johnny Guelker and wife LaNelle of Andrews; brothers-in-law, Tommie Ed Hale of Sweetwater and Bob Morris of Abilene; sisters-in-law, Elizabetha Guelker of Sweetwater and Esther Guelker of Colorado City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mitzi, in 1990; and then his second wife, Lucille, in 2002; his parents, H.F. and Madie Guelker; brothers, Floyd Guelker, Eugene Guelker, Jay H. Guelker and Alvin Guelker; and sisters, Peggy Morris and Betty Hale.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Maberry, Brad Stuart, Terry Scherwitz, Britt Stuart, Eddie Puckett and Richard Spencer.
