Al Miller to coach varsity girls' basketball, Tony Heredia to coach varsity softball at SHS

A pair of familiar faces with longtime ties to the community are assuming head coaching jobs this year at Sweetwater High School.
Al Miller, who has been serving as the junior varsity girls basketball coach at SHS, will be taking over as head coach following the recent resignation of Candice Wyatt, who is going to Stratford.
Miller is entering his 17th year at SHS where he has not only been an assistant coach in basketball, softball, track and volleyball at the high school level but has also coached basketball, football, track and volleyball at the middle school level since being hired.
Miller will also serve as JV softball coach under Tony Heredia, who will be returning for his second stint as head coach at SHS.
Heredia previously served as the head softball coach from 2002-04 before entering school administration here for many years. After a two-year absence, he repla-ces Bobby Williams, who is going to Llano to join Craig Slaughter’s staff.
During his previous tenure at SHS, Heredia also served as the head baseball coach for six years from 1994-1999 and was also a longtime member of the football coaching staff under Tom Ritchey, Hank Dowell and Kent Jackson.
