Funeral services for Melvin Thomas "MT" Wilkinson, Jr., 75, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Eric Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Wilkinson died Monday, May 21, 2012, at his home in Sweetwater.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1936, in Brady, Texas. He married Brenda Squires on June 12, 1999, in Sweetwater. Melvin grew up in Sweetwater, graduating from Newman High School. He joined and retired from the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam as a Master Sergeant and receiving the Bronze Star. He then worked in Wichita Falls, Texas for PPG as an electronics technician. He moved back to Sweetwater in 1997. He was a member of the Church of God, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Wilkinson of Sweetwater; sons, Randall W. Wilkinson of McKinney, TX and Richard Dale Wilkinson of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter, Catherine Ann Thomas of Coal Valley, Illinois; step daughter, Debra Gilcrease of Onalaska, TX; adopted children, Frank Wilkinson of Burkburnett, TX, Nancy Wilkinson Royal of Fort Worth, TX and Jenny Wilkinson Smith of Burkburnett, TX; sister Willene Wilkinson Browning and husband Jerry of Sweetwater; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Jean Wolf Wilkinson on Oct. 23, 1969; a grandson; and his parents, Melvin, Sr. and Doris Massey Wilkinson.
Pallbearers will be Basil Staggs, Mike Kincaid, Paul Kincaid, Richard Alls, Tony Lara and Donnie Smith.
Honorary pallbearer is J.W. Sanders.
