Funeral services for Mary L. Kirk, 88, of Sweetwater, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 1013, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Brian Brownlow officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene and interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at McCoy Funeral Home, located at 401 East Third Street in Sweetwater.
Kirk died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
She was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Collins County, TX. She married Judge Weldon Kirk on Aug. 17, 1947 in Dallas. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Austin College with a teaching degree in education. Kirk lived in Sweetwater most of her life. She also helped on the food committee at the church and was very active in Brownies, Girl Scouts and helping in Boy Scouts. She was also a member of Woman’s Forum.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Kirk of Sweetwater; son, Paul Kirk and wife Louisa of Abilene; brother, Joe Kelley and Dodie of McKinney; grandson, Paul Kirk, Jr. of Tulia; two granddaughters, Kelley Headstream and husband David of Abilene and Jesica McGallain and husband Jeremy of Abilene; grandson-in-law, Joe Fernandez of Abilene; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Caitlyn and Abigail Headstrem, Jaiden, Julia and Nathan McGallian, Faith and Aidan Kirk, Care giver and friends, Dwayne and Barbara Hill and their children, Tiffany and Sammy Ruiz, Midele Stevens and Heather Hill; and Special Friend, Nalona Winnett, all of Sweetwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Weldon Kirk on July 9, 2009; and granddaughter, Randi Fernandez on Oct. 1, 2012.
Pallbearers will be Ted Higginbottom, Bill Kirk, Dwayne Hill, Jeremy McGallian, David Headstream, Pat Bays and Paul Kirk Jr.
The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3402 N. 1st, Abilene, TX 79603 or to American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene, TX 79603.
