Lois Cullins Pate

Lois Cullins Pate, 78, of Sweetwater, and former resident of Coleman, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Dr. Don Northway officiating, assisted by Mr. James Baker. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Lois Laverne Cullins on Nov. 10, 1934, in the Brown Ranch Community in Coleman County to Earl Thomas Cullins and Jessie Dobbins Cullins. She attended school at Brown Ranch and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1953 and was Salutatorian of her class. She married Sammy Pate on Oct. 30, 1955, in Coleman. She worked as a Bank Auditor for United Savings and Loan, which later became First American Bank and is now Citibank. She retired in 1997. She led the singing at Voss Baptist Church, was a charter member of Bible Baptist Church, were she taught Sunday school and played the organ for many years. During the school year, she made the costumes for the One Act Plays that her daughter directed. In 2001, she moved to Sweetwater, to be near her grandchildren and attend their school activities. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She worked in home health, sitting with people in their homes after moving to Sweetwater and became a member of Broadway Baptist Church and worked in the nursery. Lois was very devoted to her family; a wonderful daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her children, Stephen Pate of Sweetwater and Jean Pate Morrow and husband, Mark, of Nolan; two brothers, Thomas Richard “Buddy” Cullins of Coleman and Jimmie Cullins and wife, Karen, of Maypearl; four grandchildren, Justin Pate and wife, Ashley, of Garland, Samantha Morrow of West Columbia, South Carolina, Jessica Morrow of Canyon and Sean Morrow of Nolan; and two great-grandchildren, Kayley Pate and Austin Pate, both of Garland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Leona Pate; one brother, Arnold Cullins; and one sister, Earlene Townsley.
Family visitation will from from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at the funeral home.
