The Sweetwater Lions Club will be hosting the annual Fourth of July parade on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Nolan County Courthouse. The theme is "Americans Serve!" Anyone wishing to participate in the parade needs to be at the Courthouse at 9:30 a.m. for line-up. All of the service groups in the area are encouraged to participate. Decorated bicycles, wagons andÂ floats are welcome in the parade. The parade will go east on Broadway to Elm Street. Also, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital invites the public to attend a Fourth of July celebration from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, on the hospitalâ€™s front lawn. They will be serving ice cold watermelon.
A weekend event will be planned in Roscoe. Area residents are once again invited to join in the festivities â€śOn The Bricksâ€ť in historic downtown Roscoe to celebrate our great nation on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
There will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. followed by food, crafts and kidâ€™s activities in Old Town Park and a Mud Bog at George Parks Field (Gates open at 11 a.m.). The public gate for the Plowboy Mud Bog will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Roscoe Baseball Field (by the east water tower). Kids under 7 are admitted for free, ages 8 to 14 will be admitted for $2 and ages 15 and up will be admitted for $5. Registration fee is $30 and registration starts at 10 a.m. The mud bog benefits Little League and Roscoe FFA provides concessions. Classes are Street Class 35â€ť limited engine modification; Super Street 35â€ť engine vac under 13 inches; Modified Class 36â€ť to 39â€ť limited engine modification; Super Modified 36â€ť to 39â€ť engine vac under 13 inches; Open Class 40â€ť and over-no blowers or nos.
