Texas Country Band, the Josh Abbott Band was part of the entertainment lineup at the 2013 Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.
Formed in Lubbock, Texas in 2006, the Josh Abbott Band has taken Texas by storm and since released three albums, including the most recent Small Town Family Dream, which peaked at number five in the Country Album Billboard Charts. Considered to be one the of hottest rising stars in the country music scene, their single, “Touch” was one of the most talked about songs in Texas country music in 2012.
Featured in the band is drummer from Sweetwater, Edward Villanueva.
“The Black Tie and Boots Inaugural Ball was a blast,” said Villanueva. “We had no idea what to expect. As soon as we arrived, we noticed we were definitely part of something we had never witnessed before.”
Villanueva said that there were many high class people dressed elegantly with numerous bands playing on different stages.
“Jamie Foxx, Charley Pride, Miss Texas were just to name a few famous people that were present. With this type of event there was no sound check, it’s what we call ‘throw and go,’ meaning we basically had 15 minutes to get ready to play.”
Villanueva stated that what was most exciting about performing was seeing how many people there knew of their music. “They quickly filled up the reception room, and we gave our all to them for a whole hour. It was an honor to play there. I hope one day we’re able to make another appearance.”
