The local Kiwanis Club chapter was treated to a mini-concert during their weekly, noon-time meeting held on Wednesday, July 26, 2012 at Bee’s in downtown Sweetwater.
Chapo Cerda and David Ruiz of Thoze Guyz--a musical group that produces what they call “crunkjunto” music, played several songs to the civic club.
Coincidentally, the band was formed in fifth grade at Star Search--the local school district-wide talent show sponsored by the Kiwanis Club--featuring the talent of Cerda and fellow member Steve Lujan. The third member, Ruiz, has been with Thoze Guyz for the past four years and hails from San Angelo.
With Cerda on the accordion, Diaz playing acoustic guitar and both providing vocals, the band performed some Tejano and even country songs, including their rendition of the popular Billy Currington song “Good Directions”.
Thoze Guyz will now be heading to Bally’s in Las Vegas for their next gig at this weekend’s Tejano Music National Convention, an event estimated to have 15,000 in attendance.
