LCU Symphonic Band to perform in Christmas Special

In addition to all the Lubbock Christian University Choral groups and Jazz Ensemble, the large Symphonic Band is also coming to perform on the APPLAUSE Series’ Christmas Special. The concert is Saturday, December 2 at 7:30 pm at Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. Event Sponsors are First Financial Bank and Schlotzsky’s. Tickets may be purchased at the door before the concert.
LCU Music Department is bringing nearly 100 performers and directors to Sweetwater for the performance. Philip Camp, PhD, is Director of Choral Activities. He will conduct the Praise Choir and Chamber Singers. Jazz Ensemble will be directed by Isaac P. Swanson. Forte’, smaller choral group of 14 singers, will be directed by Dr. Laurie Doyle. Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Ryan Smith. Musical selections include a variety of Christmas selections of several styles and time periods.Cornerstone Christian School students will have an art show in the upstairs lobby beginning at 6:30 and continuing after the concert. Alliance Board members and APPLAUSE volunteers will provide homemade cookies and punch. Schlotzsky’s is providing 100 meals for the musicians. Steve Holcomb, owner, and his wife Laurie have a connection to the University through their children. They also have a long history with Choral Director Dr. Camp through the Christian summer camp at Blue Haven. Mila Gibson, APPLAUSE Director, has a long relationship with Camp. His mother was once a graduate student of Gibson’s at West Texas A&M University and Philip Camp studied voice with her.
