Following continual negotiations, the Sweetwater City Commission approved a lease agreement on the Lake Sweetwater Bait Shop during their meeting held Tuesday morning at City Hall.
As stated by City Manager Eddie Brown at the meeting, the negotiations between G.M. Morgan, doing business as the Sweetwater Lake Marina, and the city continued after last month's regular meeting by request of the commissioners. Brown mentioned some of the amendments made to the agreement prior to its approval.
For instance, the city will have control over the activities held on the premises--a change from last month's discussion in which the entity wanted control. Any activity held will be presented before the city commission prior to the event.
Other changes include that the company must obtain additional insurance, while the city will receive 5% of all gross sales at a minimum of $500. And due to the fact that the city owns the property, they will be responsible for upkeep and care of the facility.
Also during the meeting, approval was given authorizing a commitment to Robert F. Elliott to approve the assignment of the Airport Lease Agreement from John Howard. The commitment is contingent on Mr. Elliott's background check, but after some deliberation the commissioners wanted to make the agreement contingent on financial as well.
Furthermore, the mid-year agreed upon procedures report, which was prepared by CPA (certified public accountant) Cathrine Wilks for the period ending March 31, 2013, was approved. Wilks, who was in attendance at the meeting, stated that no exceptions were found on each department that was examined.
Additional approval was given on the minutes for the meetings held on May 14 and May 31, 2013, for the regular monthly meeting and the budget/strategic planning retreat, respectively.
