Lady Stangs lose, go to Wylie today

The good news for the Sweetwater softball team is that the Lady Mustangs will have less than 24 hours to dwell on Monday’s 11-9 defeat at Big Spring in their district opener.
Sweetwater (8-9 overall) is right back into 5-3A action when it plays at Wylie today beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Sweetwater trailed 7-6 when play resumed Monday against Big Spring with one out in Big Spring’s half of the fourth inning — in a game that began Friday only to be suspended due to lightning and heavy rain.
The Lady Mustangs — who had fallen behind 6-0 after two innings only to launch a comeback Friday that was highlighted by Kendra Crosson’s three-run homer in the third inning — completed their rally in the fifth by tying the game 7-7.
Keyli Turner drew a walk and her courtesy runner, Morgan Runge, moved to third on Angela Garza’s double before scoring on a groundout by Jerren Villa.
But Big Spring broke the tie by scoring four times in the sixth for an 11-7 lead.
Sweetwater wasn’t done, however, getting consecutive hits by Kinsey Brown-ing, Turner, Garza and Villa to push across two runs and get within two, 11-9, with no outs in the top of the seventh until the rally was squelched with the help of a double play that the Lady Steers turned on a ball hit to shortstop Valerie Ross.
