Lady Mustangs 3rd at Crane, go to Hawley today

Following a third-place finish by the Lady Mustangs this past weekend at Crane’s tournament, Sweetwater’s softball teams are back on the road today for a JV-varsity doubleheader at Hawley starting with the JV game at 6 p.m.
Sweetwater’s varsity is 2-2 overall after winning two of three games at Crane’s event Saturday. The Lady Mus-tangs went 3-0-2 in pool play on Thursday, placing second in their pool to Marfa. On Saturday, Sweetwater shut out Denver City 16-0 and lost to Wall 12-1 before getting a 7-0 forfeit win over Marfa. Alicia Finn, Angela Garza and Keyli Turner had three hits and Kelsi and Kendra Crosson two against Denver City, with Finn getting a triple and double. Turner had four RBI and Finn and Kelsi Crosson three apiece while on the mound, Finn pitched a one-hit shutout over five innings and struck out three. Kinsey Browning drove in the lone run against Wall with a double, while Taylor McKoy and Maty Montgomery pitched.
