Recap of Lady Stangs/Monahans game held Tuesday

Sweetwater did its part on Tuesday to remain in the thick of the District 4-3A softball chase, defeating Monahans 6-2 at the Jerry Collins Complex.
And with an assist from Big Spring, the Lady Mus-tangs are now in a three-way tie for the district lead.
Big Spring threw the 4-3A race into chaos by beating Greenwood 3-1, while Sny-der was a 15-0 winner over last-place Wylie. Sweetwa-ter, Greenwood and Snyder are now all 3-1, just ahead of 2-2 Big Spring with six games left to play.
Sweetwater (17-10 overall) won’t have very long to celebrate Tuesday’s victory, as the Lady Mustangs will play at Wylie (0-4) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday to end the first half of district.
Monahans (1-3) was limi-ted to four hits by Sweet-water pitcher Maty Mont-gomery, who struck out five and had a shutout until the sixth inning.
Sweetwater, meanwhile, steadily mounted a comfor-table lead by scoring single runs in the first and third innings and adding a pair of tallies in both the fourth and fifth as the Lady Mus-tangs opened a 6-0 advan-tage over the Lady Loboes.
Almost everyone contributed, as Sweetwater’s eight hits came from seven different players.
Megan Holsey led the attack with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Montgomery had a first-inning RBI single and Suede Shirley drove in the second run when her RBI grounder scored Kelsi Crosson, who reached on an infield error. Holsey’s second double, which came with two outs in the fourth inning, scored Alyssa Heredia and Kendra Cros-son to make it 4-0.
Sweetwater got its final runs in the fifth after Kelsi Crosson doubled and Shir-ley singled to lead off the inning. Crosson scored at the end of a double steal, and Shirley came home on a passed ball.
