SHS volleyball team hosts Miles today

With its District 4-3A opener still four days away, the Sweetwater High School volleyball team shoots for a milestone today.
The Lady Mustangs (19-10) go for their 20th win at about 6:15 p.m. when they host Miles at the SHS gym. Sweetwater, which has not reached the 20-victory plateau since 2008, saw its most recent action Satur-day when it played a dual match in Lubbock.
The Lady Mustangs were pushed to the limit when they rallied for a 3-2 win over Lubbock Monterey, then lost by a 3-1 margin against Lubbock Cooper as they fell by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-25.
Against Lubbock Monter-ey, Sweetwater lost 23-25, 20-25 before winning 25-19, 25-17, 15-11 to pull out a dramatic five-set victory in Saturday’s opening match.
The top individuals for the Lady Mustangs vs. Mon-terey were Kendra Crosson with nine kills, 11 digs and three blocks; Shelby Cason with eight kills, two digs, two blocks and two aces; Suede Shirley with six kills, 23 kill assists, three digs and two blocks; Taylor McPherson and Destiny Osteen with six kills and one kill assist; Kelsi Crosson with three kills, 12 digs, six blocks and five kill assists; Kayla Chowning with 12 digs; Mikki Reschman with nine digs and two aces; Janell Walker with five digs; and Larissa Locklar with two kills and one block.
Against Lubbock Cooper, Kendra Crosson had eight kills and 10 digs; Kathleen Campbell had seven kills; Cason and McPherson had two kills and three digs; Kelsi Crosson had four kills, four aces, 13 digs and two blocks; and Shirley had 16 kill assists and 10 digs.
