Kiwanis softball tourney is set

July 29, 2013

The Kiwanis Club of Sweetwater has its first-ever Family Fun Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Aug. 3.
The tournament will be a round robin followed by single elimination, with a guarantee of four games. The tournament will be limited to eight teams divided into two divisions.
The first division will have four competitive teams (league or tournament teams) and allows unlimited home runs, with each home run hit costing $1. There will be no run rule implemented per inning.
The second division will consist of four less competitive, or “just for fun” teams. Home runs will be counted as singles, with a seven-run rule per inning.
In the round robin, both divisions will have a one-hour, drop-dead time limit. In addition, the game will end if a team leads by 15 runs after three innings or 10 runs after five innings.
Teams must have five guys and five girls on the field, but are allowed free substitutions. The entry fee per team is $125 — which includes game balls provided by Kiwanis — and is limited to the first eight teams to enter. A prize will be awarded for the first place team in each division. Concessions will be provided throughout the day.
For more information or to enter a team, please call Kiwanis members Chris Stephens at (325) 338-4867 or Mitch Moore at (325) 201-1171.
