Susie Kamer was recently announced as the 2011-2012 SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Teacher of the Year for J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center.
Kamer earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Abilene Christian University. She has spent her entire teaching career with the district as a Headstart teacher for the past six years.
She has been a member of the NHSA (National Head Start Association) and the TCTA (Texas Classroom Teachers Association). Within the community, she is an active member at Lighthouse Assembly of God as the worship leader and children's church leader.
She understands that — in her preschool teacher role — each child's unique gifts should be encouraged and expanded. She strives to promote an environment while always being available to her students.
"I try to constantly challenge my students and find ways to stimulate every part of their brains during a crucial time in their cognitive development," noted Kamer, thus establishing a foundation for lifelong learners.
She knows that every child that enters her classroom can become "someone amazing" and she is always working toward inspiring her students to build on that foundation of continually learning.
"To be a teacher is a wonderful opportunity and a great responsibility from God," Kamer said, "and it is my job to do everything I can to help children begin to discover just what a blessing they really are to the world."

Congratulations to this deserving teacher. It is not everyday that someone comes along who has taken the time to get their degree while staying in touch with how things really are in the world today.
