Jr League all-stars are only SW team still alive at district tourneys

July 2, 2013

The Junior League (ages 13-14) all-stars are the last remaining Sweetwater team at District 5 Little League tournaments in Abilene.
The Junior Leaguers, who began the tournament by going 0-2 in pool play, got bracket play off to a rousing start with dominating wins over Jim Ned (25-4) and Snyder (19-9) before suffering their first loss, 22-5, to Wylie on Saturday.
But Sweetwater is still alive after Monday’s 11-10 win over Abilene North that advanced it into today’s losers bracket semifinal. The team plays Abilene Eastern at Wylie’s field at 6 p.m.
Sweetwater’s other three teams have been eliminated from their tournaments.
The 9-10 year-olds were knocked out by Clyde 18-10 on Saturday in their losers bracket game, while the 11-12 year-olds were eliminated by Abilene Southern 9-5 in their losers bracket contest.
Unlike the other age divisions where all teams in pool play advanced, the Sweetwater 10-11 year-old all-stars had to finish with one loss or less to advance.
Sweetwater finished pool play by beating Clyde 13-7 on Monday, but that left them with a 2-2 record as only Wylie (4-0) and Eastern (3-1) moved on. Sweetwater lost to Eastern 11-8 this past Friday.
