The annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant is a time where young ladies from throughout the Big Country come together to compete for scholarship money. The annual pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The pageant is open to all girls between the ages of 16-19 who live within a 75 mile radius of Sweetwater.
This year, the Jaycees have increased the total amount in scholarship money available to the winners from $2,500 to $3,500. A total of $1,500 will be awarded to Miss Snake Charmer while $850 will be presented to the first runner-up. The second runner-up will receive $650 and the talent competition winner will receive $500.
Applications are currently available at local high schools or by contacting Carolyn Mullican at 725-3043 or 235-4943 after 5 p.m. or Laura Gilbert at 235-1524 or 338-2713.
The deadline to enter the pageant is 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. The annual pageant tea will also be held Feb. 17, beginning at 2 p.m. at Java Jax, located at 325 Oak Street in Sweetwater.
