SUNDOWN — Sweetwater’s Chris Jackson has advanced to the boys high school state powerlifting meet later this month in Abilene.
Jackson, a senior, did it with a second-place finish in the 123-pound weight class at the Region I, Division 2 meet on Friday. He lifted 960 total pounds with a 370-pound squat, 240-pound bench press and 350-pound dead lift.
Omar Alonso of Snyder also qualified for state with a first-place lift of 1,055 total pounds at the meet held at Sundown High School.
Also getting points at the meet for Sweetwater was Justin Castereno, who won a fifth-place medal in the 242-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,310 pounds.
Sweetwater’s other regional competitors on Friday were Josh Camacho, sixth in the 148-pound class (995 pounds); Blake Scott, eighth in the 132-pound class (780 pounds); Max Rodriguez, eighth in the superheavyweight class (1,335 pounds); Tony Padilla, ninth in the 181-pound class (1,045 pounds); Ethan Cortez, 10th in the 165-pound class (960 pounds); Jeremiah Barrera, 10th in the superheavyweight class (1,275 pounds); and Kendal Adames, 11th in the 148-pound class (875 pounds).
