All three Nolan County high school football teams in action today have tough road assignments as non-district play continues.
Roscoe, meanwhile, has the weekend off as the Plowboys prepare for their district opener on Sept. 28 at Baird.
Sweetwater (2-1) travels to Wall (2-1) for its third Class 3A vs. 2A matchup of the young season.
The Mustangs are facing a Wall team that dominated Sonora 47-13 last Friday and began the season state-ranked. Sweetwater defea-ted Breckenridge 33-14 last week as the team kicked off three weeks of games away from Mustang Bowl prior to the start of district play.
Highland (1-2) goes to Sands (2-1) today trying to stay on a roll following a 46-44 victory over Loraine last week. The Hornets gave coach Jeff Shelton his first win of the year on Michael Hydeâ€™s 16-yard touchdown and his two-point PAT kick which came with 39 seconds left, climaxing a game in which he ran for 173 yards with four TDs.
Blackwell (2-1) is at Trent (3-0) today, and head coach Clint Lowryâ€™s Hornets will also be coming in with a positive frame of mind after dominating Brookesmith 50-0 for their second win.
Lady Mustangs open district here Saturday by hosting Monahans
Sweetwaterâ€™s volleyball team hopes to make a state-ment when it faces state-ranked Monahans to begin district play on Saturday at Mustang Gym. Sweetwater (20-10) â€” coming off a 3-0 sweep of Miles to end non-district play on Tuesday at Mustang Gym â€” actually has a better record than Monahans (16-14), but lost in a non-district matchup earlier this season.
The Lady Mustangs face a Monahans team that beat Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday in three games. Monahans won by scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-17.
