Girls golfers in 4th after 1st district leg

SHS girls golf begins district play

The Sweetwater High School girls golf team currently sits in fourth place after shooting a 388 total Monday at the first 18-hole leg of the District 4-3A tournament in Big Spring.
Snyder leads with a 331 total while Monahans (336) is in second place and Wylie (385) in third place with 36 holes to play. The second 18-hole leg will be played at Sweetwater Country Club on April 6, with the final 18-hole leg April 8 at Mid-land Greenwood.
Sweetwater’s top individ-ual round was by Amy Witt, who shot 93 and is tied with two players for 13th place. Cassidy Rawls of Snyder leads with a 76. Also for Sweetwater, Elise Lawrence shot 96, Kala Wofford 99, Alexis Castillo 100 and Corynn Martin 101.
Sweetwater’s No. 2 team shot 417 to place sixth after the first round. Individually, Alaina Andrews shot 99, Sierra Hernandez 101, Bailey Bernal 104, Payton Moore 113 and Angellica Collier 122. The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the Region 1-3A tourney April 15-16 in Lubbock.
Sweetwater had three medalists-only who played Monday. They were Ashley Jimenez, who shot 126; Caitlyn Slaton, who shot 130; and Gabby Reyes, who carded a 133.
